Learning how to make lavender soap at home is easy. The scent of lavender is so relaxing, you may find you want to keep them for yourself instead of giving them away as gifts as you intended! Just be sure to make extra soap for yourself.

How to Make Lavender Soap

  1. Place 1 pound of glycerin goat’s milk soap inside a microwavable bowl.
  2. Melt the soap in the microwave at 10 second intervals until soap is fully melted and creamy in appearance. Stir between intervals. It takes about 6-8 intervals in total to fully melt. Don’t overcook as the soap may burn.glycerine chunks in a bowl
  3. Work quickly as the goat’s milk begins to harden as it cools.
  4. Add essential oil and stir completely.putting essential oil into a measuring spoon
  5. Pour the mixture into the soap molds.pouring melted soap into molds
  6. Before the surface of the soap sets, insert a sprig of lavender leaves onto the top of the soap. If the surface has already hardened, gently poke the surface with the end of the stem to release some melted soap to help hold the leaves in place.
  7. Let the soap fully set in the mold for at least 1 hour before removing.removing soap from mold
  8. Once soap is removed from mold, trim any rough edges with a sharp knife.trimming the edges of soap
  9. Wrap it in decorative paper or tissue and tie with a simple piece of twine.wrapping soap in paper

Expert Crafting Tips


  • As tempting as it may be, do not add lavender flower buds to the soap. It can react with the lye in the soap and turn brown.
  • Try different soap molds until you find one that you like. Silicone mold work great!
  • For a decorative touch, wrap with crumpled brown parchment paper and tie with twine. Tuck a spring of lavender in the top of the wrapper.

Craft tools
