Today, we’ll show you how to make a pom pom in a multitude of colors! It’s as simple as wrapping around your fingers and then a quick snip with some scissors.

Pom poms are a simple, fun craft to do that can be used as a base for many more projects down the line! We’ve made adorable pom pom chicks using this tutorial, and that’s only one of many ways you can use your pom poms!

The fun part is that you can make them in whichever colors you like. Pop them into a bowl for decoration, or tie them onto a string to use as a bunting!

How to Make a Pom Pom

  1. Wrap the yarn around two fingers (small children can use three), counting and wrapping 100 times. If you’d like your pom poms to be larger like ours, you can wrap the yarn around four fingers as shown below.

  2. Tie a piece of yarn around the center of your yarn loops and pull it tight, then knot it a couple of times.

  3. Use scissors to cut the ends of the loops then trim and shape the yarn ends into a fluffy ball.

Expert Crafting Tips


  • You can adjust the sizes of your pom poms by using 2 fingers, 3 fingers, or 4 fingers to wrap the yarn around. The more fingers you use, the larger your pom will be.
