Ellen Pompeo returned to Grey’s Anatomy in the season 23 premiere!

The 56-year-old actress isn’t necessarily a series regular anymore, but she is still involved as an executive producer, and, of course, she still serves as narrator and makes appearances on screen as Meredith Grey throughout the show.

Since she was back in Thursday’s (October 15) premiere episode, you may be wondering how often you’ll get to see her this season.

How often will Ellen Pompeo be on Grey’s Anatomy this season?

While speaking with THR about the season 23 premiere, showrunner Meg Marinis said, “We take her as much as we can get. I know she has a couple of things going on in the mix, but we’re scheduling around that and she really lets me know ahead of time the days she is around.”

“You want everybody to be able to do all their other projects, because work is work and it’s important right now to keep working in the industry,” Meg added. “She and I have a good relationship. We’ll plan things out, and I’m more than happy to schedule around her.”

Will they be one off episodes or will there be a multi-episode arc?

Meg added that there will be times where Ellen is in more than one episode at a time!

“I would love for it to be structured like that, but schedules aren’t working!” she told THR with a laugh. “But there are runs where she’s in for more than one episode.”

She also shared that she doesn’t have an exact episode count for Ellen‘s appearances at this time, adding to The Wrap that they are currently filming episode seven of the season.

Where else can you watch Ellen Pompeo?

If you didn’t know, Ellen is also set to star in a new Hulu series, Not a Sound, from Big Little Lies‘ David E Kelly, where she’ll play an ER nurse.
