Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThis week, Emirates Woman speaks to Lyla K, the founder of the eponymous jewellery brand based in the UAE.
Welcome to the Emirates Woman weekly series ‘How I got my job as…’ where we speak to some incredible entrepreneurs and businesswomen, both based in the UAE and globally, to find out about their career paths that led them to where they are now, what their daily routines look like, the advice they’d give to those starting out, and the hurdles they’ve had to overcome. As we talk with Lyla, she discusses how her journey into jewellery began not in a design studio, but through a background in logistics—and how a lifelong love for creativity, the night sky, and feminine design led her to build a brand defined by strong shapes, celestial details, and a distinctive identity.
At the heart of her vision is LYLA K, a jewellery label that blends modern sculptural forms with timeless elegance, where every piece is crafted to feel personal, special, and unmistakably unique.
What’s your educational background?
I studied Logistics at the German Jordanian University. It’s quite different from what I do today, but it taught me a lot about organisation, planning and the business side of things, which I actually use every day now.
What was your favourite subject at school?
Definitely Math. I always liked numbers, logic and finding the right answer. I think I’ve always naturally been quite detail-oriented.
What was your first job?
I actually started designing when I was around 16. I used to design culturally inspired clothing pieces, so creativity was always something I was drawn to from a young age. I didn’t know at the time that I would eventually end up in jewellery, but looking back, I think that was really the beginning of my journey into design.
What are the key elements of your role?
I’m involved in almost everything. Of course, designing is a big part of my role, from the first idea and sketches to choosing the stones, materials and final details. But I’m also very involved in production, campaigns, collaborations and the business side of LYLA K. I’m quite hands-on because I like every detail to feel right and to represent the brand.
Talk us through your daily routine.
Honestly, every day is different. Some days I’m completely focused on designing and developing new pieces, while other days are filled with meetings, production, clients, shoots or planning what’s next for the brand. I’m also a mother, so my day is always a balance between my family and LYLA K. It can be busy, but I’ve learned how important it is to stay organised.
What advice do you have for anyone looking to follow in the same footsteps?
I would say don’t rush and don’t try to copy what is already working for someone else. Take the time to understand your own style and what you want your brand to stand for. There are so many jewellery brands today, so having your own identity is really important.
What are the pillars that define LYLA K?
For me, it’s strong design, quality and individuality. I want our pieces to feel modern and different, but at the same time timeless enough that you’ll still want to wear them years from now.
Tell us a little about LYLA K. How did you come up with the idea and what do you aim for people to take away from it?
I’ve always loved jewellery, but I wanted to create pieces that I personally felt were missing – something modern, a little unexpected and still very feminine. That’s really how LYLA K started. The night sky, stars and light became a big part of our world and you can see those elements throughout the collections. But more than anything, I want someone to put on a LYLA K piece and feel something. I want it to feel personal and special, not just like another piece of jewellery.
What do you think makes LYLA K unique?
I think you can recognise a LYLA K piece. We have our own shapes, proportions and details, especially our signature star and the celestial elements that run through the brand. I also love mixing strong, sculptural shapes with something more delicate and feminine. That contrast has naturally become part of our identity.
What are your favourite products from the brand?
This is probably the hardest question because I get attached to every collection! But the signature star pieces will always be special to me because the star has become such an important part of LYLA K. I also love our statement earrings and bangles because they really show the personality of the brand.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
Stay true to yourself and your vision. It sounds simple, but especially when you’re building a brand, there are so many opinions and trends around you. I’ve learned that you have to listen, but also know when to trust yourself.
And what is the worst?
Probably to always play it safe. Of course you need to think carefully about your decisions, but creatively, I think you have to take risks sometimes. If you’re always afraid of doing something different, you can easily end up creating something that already exists.
What has been the biggest challenge you had to overcome?
I think one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance the creative side with the business side. When you start your own brand, you quickly realise it’s not only about designing beautiful pieces. There’s production, pricing, marketing, clients and so many decisions behind the scenes. Learning all of that while still protecting the creative side of LYLA K has been a big journey for me.
What are your goals for the future?
I want LYLA K to continue growing internationally, but in the right way. I don’t want to lose what makes the brand special just for the sake of growing quickly. I’d love to see LYLA K become recognised internationally, expand into new markets and continue creating pieces that have a very clear identity. Most importantly, I want to look back years from now and still feel that the brand stayed true to what I originally created it to be.
