The upcoming Highlander remake has added a new cast member.

Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill has been tapped to star as Conor MacLeod in a new version of Highlander that comes from Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists banner. Directed by Chad Stahelski, the movie will also star Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Dave Bautista.

Who has joined the cast of the Highlander remake?

Per Deadline, the cast of the Highlander remake now also includes WWE superstar Drew McIntyre, who will play Cavill’s character’s brother, Angus MacLeod.

While best known for his wrestling career, McIntyre made his professional acting debut in 2024’s The Killer’s Game, an action thriller movie directed by J. J. Perry that stars Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Terry Crews, and more. Stahelski’s 87Eleven stunt and action team also worked on that film.

The new Highlander movie is being written by Michael Finch. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt produce the movie for UA alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment banner,  Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.

Production on the project was recently delayed after Cavill was injured during pre-production training. Filming is now expected to begin in 2026. A release date has not yet been set.

Released in 1986, the original Highlander is directed by Russell Mulcahy and stars Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Clancy Brown as The Kurgan, Roxanne Hart as Brenda Wyatt, and Beatie Edney as Heather MacLeod. It spawned multiple sequels and television shows.

“When the mystical Russell Nash (Christopher Lambert) kills a man in a sword fight in a New York City parking lot, he leaves a sliver of an ancient weapon lodged in a car in the process,” a description of the plot reads. “After brilliant forensics specialist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) recovers evidence of the mysterious weapon, she and her partner, Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), embark on an investigation Of Nash that will land them in the middle of a dangerous, centuries-old feud between powerful immortals.”
