Noah Centineo recently shared major details about his upcoming live-action Gundam movie, in which he will star alongside Sydney Sweeney. He compared the film to one of William Shakespeare’s classic plays, calling it “a non-Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet in space.”

Centineo appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss his career and upcoming projects. One of his most anticipated projects, the Gundam movie, came up during his discussion with Josh Horowitz. When the interviewer underscored the “rich history” of the Gundam franchise, asking what the movie is going to be, Centineo responded, “Brother, you have no idea.”

Horowitz then asked if Centineo was portraying an original character or a preestablished character from the franchise. The actor responded, “Oh, these are good questions. I don’t know what I could say and how much trouble I’ll get in. I love it.” He added, “This Gundam is Sydney Sweeney and a thumb.”

When Horowitz asked him to elaborate, Centineo said, “I’m the thumb. People call me a thumb on this, but it’s a rom-com between her and this guy. There’s romance in it. It’s a big action romance space movie. It lives in the Universal Century canon of Gundam for those who know.”

Centineo reiterated that he can’t divulge too much information on the project, including which characters would appear in the movie and which won’t. He then made the Romeo and Juliet comparison.

According to the logline, the Gundam movie tells the story of rival mech pilots as they “fight on opposite sides of a decades-long war between Earth and its space former colonies.” The Description continues, “As shifting allegiances and a growing threat set them on a collision course for one another, these pilots are pulled into a high-stakes race across the stars that could define the fate of humanity.”

Jim Mickle has written and directed the movie. During the above interview, Centineo also revealed that the project has wrapped production.
