The trend of fan-favorite video games getting small-screen adaptations doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, with Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding series becoming the latest franchise to foray into the television industry. At a recent convention, Kojima, one of the most revered names in gaming, confirmed the expansion of his Death Stranding franchise with a brand new animated show that will make its debut on Disney+.

Death Stranding Isolations animated series coming to Disney+ in 2027

During Disney’s 2025 Asia Pacific originals content showcase, which took place in Hong Kong, Hideo Kojima surprised everyone by announcing a new animated series, titled Death Stranding Isolations (for now). The gaming industry veteran also confirmed that the show will come out on Disney+ sometime in 2027 (via The Hollywood Reporter).

While Kojima will be assuming executive producing responsibilities for the new series, Takayuki Sano of Bullet/Bullet fame comes in as the show’s director. Talking about the upcoming animated project at the said event, Kojima stated (via translation) that Death Stranding fans can expect the series to be “pretty mind-blowing.” Additionally, he revealed that the show will introduce new and different characters to the franchise.

Explaining why he decided to work on the animated series in the first place, Kojima remarked that he wanted a wider audience to experience the world of Death Stranding, rather than just gamers who are already privy to his works.

Although plot details regarding Isolations continue to remain under wraps at the time of writing, it is known that the series will leverage a conventional hand-drawn 2D animation style. Moreover, E&H Production, famous for its work on the Ninja Kamui and Red Cat Ramen series, has taken over production responsibilities and has already begun developing the project.

The first installment in the Death Stranding franchise came out to rave reviews in 2019. A sequel game, titled Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was released earlier this year for PlayStation 5.

However, the Isolations series won’t build on the storyline established in either of the two games but will instead follow a completely new arc, revolving around the adventures of a young man and woman.
