General Hospital’s André Landzaat dies at 81
General Hospital star André Landzaat has sadly passed away at 81. He is best remembered as Tony Cassadine on GH. He beat Thaao Penghlis in securing the role. Penghlis went on to play Tony DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Cassadine was introduced as a part of the soap opera’s Ice Princess saga and went on to enjoy great fanfare, thanks to his excellent villainous portrayal.
The character also died dramatically, freezing to death. He was the first member of the Cassadine family and had romantic links to Lesley Webber and Alexandria Quartermaine.
Born in the Netherlands, André Landzaat was interested in acting from a very young age and learned the craft in Paris and New York. He even trained alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. After appearances in shows like Family, Laverne & Shirley, and The Six Million Dollar Man, Landzaat landed the General Hospital role.
After his exit from the show, he remained active in the industry and even became an acting instructor. In 2021, he finally moved back to the Netherlands. He suffered from some health issues after that.
Following his death, many long-term soap fans came forward to pay their tributes on social media platforms like X. “RIP André Landzaat. Long-time GH fans will remember Landzaat as “Tony Castle,” AKA Tony CASSADINE, who romanced Lesley Webber and Alexandria Quartermaine and foiled Luke and Robert’s quest for the fabled Ice Princess. Tony was the brother to Mikkos & Victor Cassadine #GH,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Yes that poor guy winded up being frozen to death on that island. RIP, as I enjoyed you as Tony.”
André Landzaat will remain one of the most remembered actors in General Hospital.
