The 34-year-old former Pittsburgh Steelers running back was arrested on Sunday (July 19) in Ohio on charges related to a child support case originating in Michigan.
Bell was arrested on a warrant issued by officials in Michigan, with authorities receiving information that he would appear in the Canton, Ohio area for an autograph signing at the Belden Village Mall, according to EW.
His arrest report confirms that Bell currently resides in Van Nuys, Calif.

Following the arrest, Bell‘s attorney Thomas Shaffer told TMZ that the arrest stems for unpaid child support. Shaffer said that Bell did not make the support payments because the amount is based on his NFL salary, which he has not earned in years.
The attorney noted that the support guidelines by law are based on current income, not his NFL salary, so computing these guidelines on inaccurate information is unfair.
Bell allegedly owes more than $50,000 for child support. The child in question lives in Michigan and that’s why the Michigan Attorney General is involved in the case.

Shaffer said that earlier this year, Bell used a portion of his NFL pension to pay $50,000 in child support. Bell intends on explaining his predicament to a judge.
Bell began his NFL career in 2013 by playing with the Steelers. He also played with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring in 2021. Following his retirement, Bell he pursued a professional boxing career and has fought in a handful of matches.
Last year, Bell was ordered to pay $25 million as a default judgement after failing to appear in court for a 2024 sexual abuse case.
