Why JR Smith was arrested

Per TMZ‘s report, JR was arrested after a license plate reader flagged his vehicle, alerting drivers to an active warrant. He was then pulled over and arrested on the warrant, which was for a family violence assault charge.

JR was booked into the Hunt County Detention Center on a charge of assault causing bodily injury family violence, and he reportedly remains in custody now with no bond set.

The outlet also reports that his brother was with him and took possession of the vehicle.

Which teams did JR Smith play with in the NBA?

JR Smith was drafted with a first round, 18th overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He was selected by the New Orleans Hornets, where he played for the next two years.

He was then traded to the Denver Nuggets and played there through 2011.

Following an NBA lockout, JR played on a one year deal with the Zheijiang GOlden Bulls in the Chinese Basketball Association, before returning to the NBA in 2012.

He signed with the New York Knicks in February 2012 and played with the team through 2015, before being traded in a three-team trade, where ended up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

JR played in Cleveland through 2019, when he was waived by the team in July of that year. The next year, he signed with the Lakers for the remained of the 2019-2020 season. He then retired from the sport.

After his NBA retirement, JR went back to college at North Carolina A&T State University, and graduated earlier this year with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. While at college, he joined the golf team.
