Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan have dropped the music video for their “Expectations” remix and it’s a must-watch!

The video stars David Byrne as the host of classic game shows with Olivia and Chappell appearing as competing contestanst on them. For those who don’t know, Chappell got her big break while appearing as an opening act on Olivia‘s first tour and they’ve remained close friends since then.

“Expectations” is one of the final tracks on Olivia‘s third studio album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. She has previously said that songs on the album are “chronological and in the order in which it happened in my life and it’s the first time that’s happened. And I think that was really interesting for me creatively to like structure it that way.”

The song is all about not settling for someone and how it’s okay to have expectations about how you should be treated by a romantic partner.

Olivia‘s original second verse in the song is replaced by Chappell‘s new lyrics about her own situation.

Front row, thought it’d be fun
Her hand moving up my skirt
New piercing on her tongue

That was three weeks ago
Classic L.A. behavior
She could’ve just said no

Chappell told Apple Music about the song, “This is obviously my first feature. I’ve never done this before, so it feels perfect to me. I don’t know. I feel like it represents a generation of songwriters that are just really thinking about their lyrics. I felt like with this song, I was like, ‘Wow, it’s so cool that she is putting a pretty difficult concept within the pop song,’ which is my favorite pop songs ever. But it felt so natural to settle in because I was like, ‘This is so real. To have expectations of people is so valid.’ But as for the verse about being set up and stuff, I mean, that was made up. Most of my song is more like a fantasy… It’s just cool to have a queerness. I don’t know. I don’t know if everyone would be down to have a fully queer verse on their song. I think that that says a lot about your support for queerness, but also besides girl pop star vibes. It feels very feminist to me, but that is so you.”
