2024 Emmys: See the Most Stunning Red Carpet Fashion!

Lizzie McGuire you are an outfit repeater!

Except in this case, rather than repeating an outfit for one’s junior high graduation, the faux pas in question is accidentally showing up to the same event in the exact same outfit—and it’s happened in Hollywood more often than one might think.

Indeed, in a world with countless celebrity stylists and designer dresses, there have still been a number of times stars arrived on the carpet and found themselves looking in a mirror.

Take, for instance, the time Brie Larson and Alexandra Daddario arrived to a press conference at Filming Italy 2024 wearing the same exact black Dôen dress with white polka dots. While both actresses arrived—at different times—with their hair similarly parted to the side and hanging in waves, Brie opted to pair the flowy dress with strappy sandals and a red clutch while Alexandra sported bright white sneakers and silver jewelry.

Or, there was the time Pink and Shakira arrived to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in matching sequined mini dresses from Balmain.

For her part, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer styled her look in thigh-high boots and a black clutch while the “So What” rocker wore her hair in a dramatic updo and strutted the runway in strappy heels.

And when a reporter pointed out the matching moment to Shakira on the carpet, she replied, “No way! Oh my god, that’s actually really fun. I love it.”

A sentiment shared by Pink, who told Us Weekly at the time, “She's hot. I think it's hilarious.”

Of course, there are moments when the twinning wasn’t so accidental. For instance, for the premiere of their 2017 film Ingrid Goes West, Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen arrived in head-to-toe matching looks.

While they pretended to be shocked when the greeted each other in their identical Marc Jacobs dresses and Sophia Webster heels, the ploy was pre-planned and the two soon struck a classic prom pose to snap pictures together.

There was also the iconic way Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey opened the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. Leaning into their “diva” personas, each tried to one up the other in their “custom”—yet identical—Vera Wang gowns, removing layers only to find the other was able to do the same.

Of the stint, Mariah told Vogue in 2022, “We were opening the show with this bit, which was supposed to be like ‘Well, here’s my thing,’ and she’s like ‘Well, look at mine,’ We [were] having a faux competition of the look.”

In fact, the moment was so iconic that Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion even paid homage to the trick at the 2022 Grammy Awards in matching looks styled by Donatella Versace.

But don’t take our word for it: to see that and more, keep reading for all the times stars accidentally twinned—or triplet-ed—at an event, keep reading.

Olivia Wilde & Margaraet Zhang

At the 2023 Met Gala, the Don't Worry Darling and the-then Editor in Chief of Vogue China each honored the late Karl Lagerfeld in the same Chloé dress, in opposite colors.

Olivia then honored the accidental matching moment on her Instagram Story, writing, "Great minds. If you're gonna twin with anyone, make it @margaretzhang."

The Captain Marvel star and White Lotus alum may have styled their polka dotted Dôen gowns differently, but they still made sure to pose together for photos at Filming Italy 2024.

Pink & Shakira

The musical icons proved that hips—and taste—don't lie when they arrived at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in the same mini dress from Balmain.

Thankfully, both parties were floored by the moment, with Pink telling reporters of her twin, "She's hot."

Nicole Richie, Mandy Moore & Minka Kelly

While dressing on theme, these three stars accidentally each picked the exact same dress to wear to the launch of the new Dôen collection in Los Angeles in 2016.

While Nicole and Minka opted for the white version, Mandy was alone in black.

Nell Mescal & Clara Amfo

At th 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards, Paul Mescal's sister—a musician in her own right—and the British broadcaster proved they really are just normal people when they accidentally showed up in the same sheer Gucci gown.

Elizabeth Olsen & Aubrey Plaza

Always down for a joke, the Marvel stars decided to twin (on purpose) to the 2017 premiere of their film Ingrid Goes West.

While the pair pretended to throw a fit on the carpet, the matching Marc Jacobs dresses were an intentionally twinning moment.

Jamie Lee Curtis & Sigourney Weaver

Similarly, for their film You Again, Sigourney and Jamie Lee decided to recreate a moment from their film and "accidentally" wear the same dress to the 2010 premiere.

Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston

The two musical legends proved humor never goes out of style when they opened the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards with a prank in custom Vera Wang gowns.

Leaning into the diva persona, the duo feigned fury as they "realized" their one-of-a-kind looks weren't as unique as they'd thought.

Laverne Cox & Gabrielle Union

Almost 20 years later, the two actresses decided to recreate the Mariah and Whitney-diva moment when they presented at the 2015 BET Awards.

Though they wore different looks on the carpet, the pair then arrived on stage in matching white gowns. The only way to prove who rocked the look better? A live face-off over hip-hop trivia (which Laverne won).

Dua Lipa & Megan Thee Stallion

As they say, the third time is often the charm. At least Dua and Megan hoped it would be when they executed a similar ploy at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

When presenting the award Best New Artist, the artists were "shocked" to see they'd arrived in the same Versace looks—only to have Donatella Versace herself take to the stage and tell them to cool it.

Simone Ashley & Jess Hunt

The Bridgerton star and social media personality accidentally rocked the same sleeveless, yellow suede dress to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in Oct. 2024.

Nicky Hilton & Dee Ocleppo

When it came to "An Evening Honoring Valentino" at Lincoln Center in 2016, Nicky and the fashion designer each arrived in the same Valentino ensemble.

Jaime King & Nicky Hilton

But for Nicky, this wasn't the only time her fashion choices landed her a twin.

In fact, five years earlier she and the White Chicks actress both donned the same leopard print dress to the UK Style by French Connection fashion launch party in Hollywood.

Julianne Hough & Olivia Munn

When these two stars arrived at a party in 2016, they found themselves dressed almost identically. Thankfully, they decided to make the most of it with this twinning photo.

Svetlana Ustinova & Thylane Blondeau

During the 2017 premiere of Loveless at Cannes Film Festival, the Russian actress Svetlana and French model Thylane accidentally arrived in the same Dior gown.
