▪️ Less than a month has passed since Looney Labs announced Word Fluxx, Andy Looney's newest take on his long-lived Fluxx card game, and now the publisher has unveiled a newer newest take: Mystery Fluxx.

Take a look at this 1-6 player game that will debut on May 6, 2025:
In Mystery Fluxx, a slew of detectives is trying to solve the mystery by collecting clues, examining locations, finding weapons, and sussing out secrets...all without being eliminated themselves!

The game's artwork, actions, and card titles allude to favorite mystery characters and plotlines, including Clue, Sherlock Holmes, Murder on the Orient Express, The Maltese Falcon, Dragnet, Columbo, Monk, Murder She Wrote, Matlock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, investigative teams such as CSI, NCIS, and Law & Order, and teen detectives such as Scooby Doo, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, and the Enid Blyton characters.

Mystery Fluxx features a larger-than-normal number of card types: Meta Rules, Keepers, Creepers, Goals, New Rules, Actions, Surprises, Dangers (which eliminate you for one turn), and a brand new card type: Secrets!

Why announce one so soon after another? Because the GAMA Expo trade show opens in less than two weeks, so publishers want to give retailers a head start in figuring out how they'll stock their shelves in the coming months. You can discover what else is being demoed at GAMA Expo by heading to BGG's Q1 2025 Preview.

Mock-up image▪️ Another spin-off title recently announced is The White Castle Duel, a two-player-only game from Isra C., Shei S., and Devir that features the same setting as their 2023 title The White Castle. Here's an overview of this Q4 2025 release:
Following the arrival of the Portuguese in Japan, daimyos competed for control of foreign trade and technology. Himeji Castle, a symbol of feudal power, became a strategic center for clans seeking to gain influence.

In The White Castle Duel, two clans compete to exert their influence in the White Heron's court, managing resources and building engines. On each turn, you will use their lamp tokens to obtain resources and activate actions. Among the actions available, you can buy and upgrade influence cards, place clan seals on gardens and training grounds, move your courtier between circles of influence, or trade with the Portuguese. These actions will allow you to accumulate a series of icons — flags, katanas, kabutos, and origami figures — that will reward you with points, and whoever ends up with the most points wins.

▪️ Another Q4 2025 spin-off title is Sail Legacy, a two-player-only Taylor Reiner design based on the 2023 two-player, co-operative trick-taking game Sail from Akiyama Koryo and Kozu Yusei (which was itself based on their 2021 game HAMELN CAVE).

Here's an overview of the game, which publisher Allplay plans to crowdfund in April 2025:
In Sail Legacy, you and your best matey will go on an adventure across thirty unique missions. Upgrade your ship, outfit your characters, and tune the deck itself to avoid a watery grave!

Sail Legacy evolves from the core Sail game mechanisms as you cooperatively use "must-follow" trick-taking to take on the unforgiving ocean — and the mythical beasts that call it home. Based on the combination of symbols in the trick, you'll steer the ship, charge ahead, or fire the cannons. Throughout the game, you'll tweak your pirate's asymmetric player powers. Will you have a well-balanced team or specialize in one area?

An epic campaign awaits. Live with the consequences of numerous branching decisions. Express your creativity with customization. Most of all, don't sink. No two tales will be the same!
