Cynthia Erivo is celebrating the upcoming release of her movie Prima Facie!

The three-time Oscar-nominated actress stepped out in a yellow gown on the red carpet for the 2026 BFI London Film Festival event on Tuesday night (October 13) in London, England.

Prima Facie will be released in U.K. cinemas in November, but the movie is still awaiting a U.S. release date.

What is Prima Facie about?

A young, ambitious trial lawyer (Erivo) brilliantly navigates the ruthless London court system where she is unmatched in her defense of the accused, including men charged with sexual assault. Just as her career is taking off, a life-altering event forces her to reckon with her belief in the judicial system that was once the core of her identity.

Co-stars Toheeb Jimoh, Elizabeth Dulau, Harry Treadaway, Khalid Abdalla, and Elliot Levey all stepped out for the premiere as well.

The film also stars Daniel Ings, Noma Dumezweni, and Simon Russell Beale.

Amid everything happening right now with the Cornell case, the movie could not be more timely.

Cynthia Erivo opens up about the movie.

“I just knew immediately that I wanted to do this because I knew how important it was,” Cynthia told THR. “I also I had this feeling that it was more important than I was even aware of, and I wanted to be part of it.”

Cynthia praised the intimacy coordinator who worked on set.

“I think not enough credit is given to intimacy coordinators. They’re often given a hard time for the work that they have to do on the set. But the work that they do is really important, and it isn’t just about choreographing a scene, a sex scene, a love scene, romantic scene — it’s about sometimes having to not just choreograph these really hard, harrowing scenes but also making sure that everybody comes back to their bodies safely,” she said.

On co-star Daniel Ings, she added, “from the beginning, was very, very kind and immediately wanted to have a conversation about how we could be protective of one another and how we could be helpful in those places, at those moments, so that we could go as far as we needed to go, and then come back again.”
