The streaming giant’s highly rated anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners came out in 2022 and went on to achieve a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077, which was created by the studio CD Projekt Red. Additionally, CD Projekt Red announced that the second season will be a standalone story.

While the Anime Expo was filled with announcements of many top anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners fans were also treated with a glimpse of Season 2 through its teaser.
The team of the upcoming Netflix anime gathered at the event and unveiled a new poster and the trailer for it. According to the teaser trailer, the anime is now in production. However, there is no release date window associated with the project yet.
The co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, Michal Nowakowski, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 is in production. Different crew and new standalone story set in the Night City. Studio Trigger teamed up with us yet again to bring you more action. All that coming to Netflix in due time :)”
Moreover, creative director Bartosz Sztybor urged fans to prepare for heartbreak. He wrote in another post, “I’m super happy and proud to announce that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is in production. I’m writing, producing, and showrunning, so be prepared for sadness!!”
At a behind-the-scenes discussion at the Expo, it was also announced that Kai Ikarashi will serve as the director for Season 2. On the other hand, Sztybor stated, “David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.” (via CD Projekt Red website)
