Coven Academy has premiered on Freeform, Hulu, and Disney+, and we’re getting to know more about the characters and the actors who play them!

The new supernatural series first debuted on Freeform on Thursday, October 1st, followed by all episodes releasing on Hulu and Disney+.

What is Coven Academy about?

In the haunted heart of New Orleans, Coven Academy follows three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers at an elite magic boarding school where power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability. Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden love interests, the coven must decide how far they’re willing to go to protect their city—and themselves.

Since the series centers on a group of teenagers in high school, you may be wondering how old the actors are in real life, and how close to the age of their character they are.

We’ve rounded up the main and recurring cast of the teen characters, and are taking a look at the ages of the actors who play them.

Malina Pauli Weissman as Briar

Malina Pauli Weissman leads the cast as Briar, who is “a sharp, sarcastic New Yorker who lands at the New Orleans boarding school for the magically gifted with her walls already up. She’s quietly grieving the loss of her mother—and now she has to navigate new powers, new classmates, and the unsettling possibility that letting people in might not destroy her.”

While Briar is around 16 or 17, Malina is actually 23 years old.

Malina‘s past projects include Supergirl, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Malachi Barton as Jake

Malachi Barton stars as Jake, who is “a beguiling warlock student who begins to dabble with dark magic as a way to come to terms with his complicated past. Intrigued by Briar, the new girl in school, he’s drawn towards dangerous situations… including a love triangle.”

Jake is also 16-17 in the show, but Malachi is a little bit older at 19 years old.

The actor is currently performing on Disney’s Worlds Collide Tour, where he’s singing his original song, “Stay for the Credits.” He is best known for starring in the Zombies franchise, Camp Rock 3, Stuck in the Middle, The Villains of Valley View, and Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

Jordan Leftwich as Sasha

Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha in the new series, who is “a powerfully empathic young witch who can read emotions and control thoughts, Sasha is fiercely protective of her friendship with Tegan—and initially wary of newcomers… but ultimately becomes the stable center of her most important friendships.”

Sasha is 16-17 years old in the TV show, but Jordan is 21 years old in real life.

Jordan is still relatively new to acting on screen, with only two past credits to her name: Loot and Family Switch.

Ora Duplass as Tegan

Ora Duplass stars as Tegan, “a bubbly yet grounded time-bending witch with genuine vulnerability. Her ADHD manifests as both her greatest challenge and the source of her powers. Endearingly goofy, enthusiastically loyal, and braver than she knows. She’ll do anything for her friends.”

Like her classmates, Tegan is 16-17 years old, but Ora is only slightly older, at 18. She is the youngest of the main stars in the show!

Ora has previously appeared in screen in the movie Their Town and the series The Creep Tapes.

Louis Thresher as Ollie

Louis Thresher rounds out the main cast, playing Ollie. He is a “newly turned reluctant vampire passing as the magnetic boy next door, Ollie finds himself caught between his growing feelings for Briar and the expectations of his new vampire family.”

While Ollie is 16-17, Louis is 21 in real life.

Louis has only appeared in one other TV series, Boarders, a British teen dramady that debuted on BBC Three.

Swayam Bhatia as McKenna

Swayam Bhatia has a major recurring role in the show, playing McKenna. She is “the queen bee of the school, McKenna is funny and fearless—and Jake’s stepsister.”

McKenna is also around 16-17, but Swayam is slightly older in real life, turning 19 years old on October 8th.

This marks an onscreen reunion for Swayam and Malachi, as they also co-star in Zombies 4 and the upcoming Zombies 5, where they both play vampires. You may also recognize her from the Disney+ series The Mighty Duck: Game Changers, or the recurring role of Sophie Roy on Succession.

Brendon Tremblay as Alexander

Brendon Tremblay has a recurring role on the show, playing Alexander, a vampire and mentor to Ollie.

While the character is in high school, Brendon is actually 22 years old in real life.

The actor recently starred as Max Hatter in Disney’s Descendants: Wicked Wonderland. Other past credits include recurring roles on shows like Gang de hockey, First Line, Near or Far, Alert, and The Night Logan Woke Up.

Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Teese

Nathanial Logan McIntyre has a recurring role on the show, playing Teese, who is a recently turned vampire and friend to Alexander.

He is also, of course, in high school, but Nathaniel is 23 years old in real life.

The actor is best known for his starring role in All American‘s last two seasons, playing Young Jackie Jackson in Michael, as well as roles on The Equalizer, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, David Makes Man, Black-ish, and the movies Barry and Magic Camp.

Brandon McEwan as Dylan

Brandon McEwan has a recurring role, where he plays Dylan. He is a warlock prankster who is friends with Jake.

While the character is 16-17 in the show, Brandon is actually the oldest among the younger stars at 27 years old.

You may also recognize Brandon from past roles including Remarkably Bright Creatures, Rich Kid, Happy Face, Alter Boys, or A Christmas Cookie Catastrophe.
