Draven Bennington is living her truth.
The daughter of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington—who died in 2017 by suicide—announced in a Valentine’s Day post she is transgender, noting the decision came after a long time of trying to be someone she “wasn’t on the inside.”
“In August of last year, I decided to take the path of happiness and being my true self,” Draven continued in the Feb. 14 post. “I came out as transgender and started hormone replacement therapy, and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made.”
She expressed her gratitude for her supportive friends and family, giving a special shoutout to her mom Samantha Bennington, adding, “I’m so blessed to be your child! I love you to the moon and back!”
The 22-year-old noted she chose Valentine’s Day to make her announcement—which she captioned simply with pink hearts alongside the transgender pride flag—because the holiday “is a day to celebrate love and what love truly means.”
In a follow up post shared just days later, Draven described the outpouring of love she’s received following her announcement.
“I’ve shed so many happy tears reading all your kind words, you all light up my heats and soul,” she wrote in the Feb. 17 post. “You are all proving that love will always outshine hate!”
Draven also wrote to anyone going through a similar journey, “You are not alone! You are valid!” while adding, “To the bigots, I hope you learn the valuable lesson of love.”

In her caption, Draven expressed her preference for she/her pronouns and confirmed she’d continue to use the name Draven, noting, “It’s pretty androgynous and can’t think of a cooler name lol.”
Draven’s mother Samantha wrote in the comment section of this second post, alongside three hearts, “Love you,” while a fan added of Draven’s late father, “Chester would be by your side now supporting you and looking for all the resources to make you feel good! I'm proud of you!”
Samantha often features Draven on her Instagram, and in November penned a sweet tribute to her daughter.
“You’re the most beautiful soul I have had the honor to know and you teach me new strength all the time,” Samantha captioned the Nov. 11 post. “I know as a parent we never stop growing and learning with our children. Thanks for rocking and rolling in this crazy loco life with me! I truly am grateful and I love you so very much!”
