Carlos Alcaraz is opening up about his future in tennis following his second-round win at the US Open on Wednesday (September 2).

The 23-year-old Spanish player and two-time US Open winner defeated Jaime Faria in the second round of the men’s singles, and will face off against Wu Yibing on Friday (September 4) for round three.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Carlos gave an update on what his future in the sport will look. If you recall, the US Open is his first tournament back since taking several months off due to an injury earlier this year.

Carlos Alcaraz will take more time off in the future

“I took more than I wanted, to be honest, but you know, seeing how tight is the calendar, obviously I don’t want to have this break because (of) an injury,” the Spaniard said, via The New York Post. “But in the future, I’m going to take some breaks, some long breaks. Maybe not four months, but one month, two months, missing some tournaments, because it’s impossible to play them all.”

“I think they [are] adding more important tournaments. You know, in a way they making us to play. You can say, no. You can keep one or two,” Carlos continued. “You can decide your calendar, but there are some Masters 1000s, some Grand Slams, and we’ve been out playing 40 weeks if we got to play every mandatory tournament that the ATP, you know, required us to play.

“So it’s impossible, and we are seeing a lot of players getting injured, a lot of players getting tired. If they don’t do anything about it, we are going to see even more in the future.”

Carlos Alcaraz arrives for his round two match at the US Open

Earlier this week, Carlos went viral while playing during the tournament after his nipple was exposed as he was playing.

Last week, Carlos teamed up with Serena Williams for the mixed doubles at the US Open Fan Week, where they were unfortunately eliminated in their second match.

The annual tennis tournament is running through September 13, with the women’s singles final on September 12 and the men’s singles final happening on September 13. You can expect many star sightings in the weeks to come!
