One glimpse is all it takes to appreciate Calvin Harris’ new look.
The music producer traded his usual coiffed hair and light stubble for a much scruffier appearance in a photo shared on Instagram March 10. The pic, taken in a lush forest, featured Calvin sporting dirty blonde, shoulder-length hair and a full beard as he kept warm in a beige henley shirt and green jacket.
In the caption of the rugged snap, the 41-year-old also hinted at a musical makeover of sorts, teasing a new song titled “Smoke the Pain Away.” The track, which is set for release March 14, seemingly marks Calvin’s foray into country music, based on a previous teaser posted on social media.
“Wide awake in a hotel room / Thinkin’, ‘Oh, what I could do,’” he sang in a clip on Instagram March 5 while strumming an acoustic guitar. “Too late, I’ve been up for days / I can’t even see straight / No, I can’t smoke the pain away.”
The song is also quite the departure in the sense that Calvin (real name Adam Wiles) doesn’t always lend his own vocals to his music, having enlisted the likes of Rihanna, Sam Smith and Dua Lipa to sing the hooks on some of his biggest hits. He also previously collaborated with ex Taylor Swift, whom he dated from 2015 to 2016, to co-write the smash “This Is What You Came For.” (Taylor also contributed backing vocals on the single.)
And despite the social media fallout that transpired after the two split—which Calvin later expressed remorse for—one person with no bad blood is his wife Vick Hope, who has admitted to being a not-so-secret Swiftie.
“As soon as my husband goes away, I listen to Taylor Swift,” the media personality confessed on her BBC Radio 1 show Going Home With Vick, Katie and Jamie in April. “That's just when I get my little fill—just a little fill.”
