Bobby Bones praised Shane Gillis’ controversial “Saturday Night Live” monologue, admitting that “for the most part,” he found the bit “pretty funny.”
“He just kind of goes at it,” Bones said about Gillis on Sunday’s episode of his “25 Whistles with Bobby Bones” podcast. “Got to respect that he takes chances up there.”
The “Dancing with the Stars” winner explained that he particularly liked Gillis’ comments about female gymgoers’ shorts.
“He said it looks like the color of an artificial bait, artificial lure,” Bones, 46, shared. “And I thought that was so funny.”
Bones noted that in his now-deleted TikTok video about the monologue, he told his followers that if they “don’t get the joke” about the shorts, they’re “probably not from the South” or have “probably never been fishing.”
“And then everyone’s like, ‘are you trans? Or are you a lesbian?’ Because of my hair,” said Bones, who has grown out his brown hair.
Gillis, 38, sparked backlash for his description of female gymgoers when he hosted the NBC sketch comedy show over the weekend.
“I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t realize women just dressed like whores now,” the comedian said to a mixture of laughs and groans from the audience.
Gillis then described the gymwear as “neon” and “like artificial bait color,” before stating, “The wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole.”
“And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of about 10 TikToks right now,” he added.

Gillis, who also dropped an uncensored F-bomb later in the show, was cast on “SNL” in 2019 — but axed within a week due to backlash over resurfaced podcast clips during which he used racist and homophobic slurs.
“Schitt’s Creek” star Dan Levy blasted “misogynist” Gillis for his monologue, which he said left him “speechless.”
“Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores,” Levy said on Instagram Sunday. “It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There’s a difference there.”
The Emmy Award winner urged more men to “stand up in opposition” to Gillis’ comments because males “need to be defending women more.”
Meanwhile, “SNL” alum Ego Nwodim trolled Gillis after the episode aired by calling herself a “whore reporting for duty” while flashing a peace sign mid-workout on her Instagram Stories.
Maren Morris similarly mocked Gillis by posting an Instagram Reel of herself giving him the middle finger to the text, “me being a whore at the gym.”
The singer captioned her clip, “leave my gym short wedgie out of it.”
