Ingredients for Blueberry Cobbler Recipe

This easy blueberry cobbler is made with simple ingredients you likely already have on hand.

For the Filling

  • Blueberries (fresh or frozen): The star of the dish…juicy, sweet-tart berries that create a rich, bubbly filling.
  • Granny Smith Apple: Adds natural pectin to help thicken the filling and a subtle tart balance.
  • Sugar: Sweetens the berries and enhances their natural flavor.
  • Flour: Helps thicken the filling as it bakes so it’s not too runny.

For the Topping

  • Flour: Forms the base of the soft, cake-like cobbler topping.
  • Brown Sugar: Adds sweetness and a hint of rich molasses flavor.
  • Baking Powder: Helps the topping rise and stay light and fluffy.
  • Salt: Balances the sweetness and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Butter: Adds richness and creates a tender, slightly crisp topping.
  • Heavy Cream: Brings moisture and helps create that soft, fluffy texture.
  • Ice Cream (optional): A creamy, cold contrast that melts into the warm cobbler for the perfect bite.

  • Prepare the cobbler topping

Blueberry Cobbler FAQs

Can You Use Frozen Blueberries?

Yes! Use frozen blueberries straight from the freezer. Do not thaw, or the filling may become too watery.

Do You Serve Blueberry Cobbler Warm or Cold?

Blueberry cobbler is best served warm, especially with vanilla ice cream.

Why is My Cobbler Runny?

Some fruit is just juicier than others. If the filling looks extra saucy when you mix all your filling ingredients together, add a tablespoon or less of cornstarch and whisk it in. That will help thicken it up as it bakes.

What is the Difference Between a Cobbler and a Crisp?

Cobbler has a soft, biscuit or cake-like topping, while a crisp has a crumbly oat topping.

Can blueberry cobbler be made ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the filling in advance or bake the cobbler and reheat before serving.

Blueberry Cobbler Variations

You can go wild with the filling for this recipe! Add raspberries, strawberries and/or blackberries for a mixed berry cobbler. You can swap out the berries for peaches or apples. If you use peaches or apples, you can omit the flour from the filling.

How to Store and Reheat Blueberry Cobbler

Cobbler should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep for 4-5 days.

To reheat cobbler, place it in the oven at 350 degrees F for 15-20 minutes. If you just want to warm up a single serving, you can just zap it in the microwave for 45 seconds.
