New details have been shared about the circumstances surrounding Kim Sae-ron's death.

One day after the Bloodhounds actress was found dead in her home in Seoul at age 24, Yonhap News Agency, citing South Korean police, reported Feb. 17 she had died by suicide.

"We believe she made an extreme choice," police told reporters, according to the outlet, "and plan to handle it as a suicide."

The Netflix star was found Feb. 16 at around 5 p.m. local time by a friend who had plans to meet her. "We have not found any signs of foul play as of yet," a police official said at the time, "but we are investigating the circumstances of the death."

Kim began acting when she was just 8 years old, starring in the movie A Brand New Life. She went on to nab roles in The Man From NowhereA Girl at My Door and The Villagers. Her last onscreen credit is Bloodhounds, a South Korean series which dropped on Netflix in 2023.

A year earlier, in May 2022, she stepped away from acting after she was caught driving under the influence and crashed her car into a guardrail and a transformer, which cause a temporary power outage in southern Seoul. She was fined 20 million won (roughly $13,850).

"I caused an accident in Gangnam around 8 AM yesterday, May 18, where I damaged public property. At the time, I was drunk and made a big mistake," the actress wrote in an apology, translated from Korean, on Instagram at the time. "I should have acted more carefully and responsibly, but I failed to do so. I sincerely apologize."

"I am disappointed and ashamed of my mistake," she continued. "I will deeply reflect and reflect again so that something like this will never happen again. I am sorry."

Though she rarely posted on social media, she did return to Instagram last month for the first time since Dec. 2023 to share a glimpse into her life.

Alongside a blue heart emoji, she shared a stunning portrait of herself.
