Despite several high-profile movies releasing this weekend, Avengers: Endgame Encore is projected to lead the box office this weekend. Marvel Studios will rerelease its smash hit from 2019 this weekend, adding new scenes to connect it to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

According to the latest box-office tracking data from Variety, Avengers: Endgame Encore is looking to gross $25 million to $28 million on release. With those numbers, the ensemble will easily beat out Primetime, Heart of the Beast, and Forgotten Island.

At the box office, the Avengers film will be followed by the Resident Evil reboot. That projection comes despite positive early reviews for the weekend’s new releases.

How much money did Avengers: Endgame make when it was originally in theaters?

Avengers: Endgame is Marvel Studios’ highest-grossing film of all time, and second behind Avatar for the world record. Following its release in 2019, the film earned about $1.2 billion worldwide during its opening weekend. Eventually grossed $2.799 billion by the end of its theatrical run.

Avengers: Endgame served as the finale to the Infinity Saga, ending the mainline story started by 2008’s Iron Man. The film marked the final MCU appearances of Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Evans as Captain America. It was critically acclaimed and holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the first Avengers sequel since 2019. The film will bring the Avengers together with the Fantastic Four and X-Men in an MCU crossover. The heroes will also be joined by Evans’ Steve Rogers as they face a multiversal threat from Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Endgame Encore features new footage that sets the stage for Doomsday. The upcoming film will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
