Amy Schumer‘s recent comment has added fuel to the ongoing rumors about Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s relationship status. The comedian teased the possibility of a romance between the two Hollywood icons during an interaction on the SNL50: The Anniversary Special red carpet.

Amy Schumer, who stars alongside Martin Short and Meryl Streep in the hit series Only Murders in the Building’s Season 2, revealed she was seated next to the pair at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert. Describing the experience, she told People, “There’s really no one funnier to sit next to than Marty Short, who I got to sit next to at the homecoming concert the other night.”

Schumer further playfully hinted at the ongoing rumors about Short and Streep’s relationship status, teasing, “I think that the tea is, I think Marty might be off the market. That’s what I’m seeing. I don’t know.” While the Kinda Pregnant actress didn’t explicitly name Meryl Streep, her comments seemingly left little to the imagination. She quipped that Martin Short could be taken “maybe by just like the greatest actor of our time. I don’t know.” 

While Schumer might have suggested that the legendary actors could be dating, Martin Short has repeatedly denied any romantic involvement with Streep. The rumors gained traction after the two were seen together at the 2024 Golden Globes. However, Short’s representative quickly clarified that they are “just very good friends, nothing more.”

Short himself has also addressed the rumors. “We are not a couple,” he stated, adding, “We are just very close friends” (via Club Random). Despite his denial, the speculation has persisted, fueled in part by their on-screen chemistry in Only Murders in the Building, where their characters are romantically involved.
