Shrill Seasons 1-3 to arrive on Netflix next month

Shrill Seasons 1-3 lands on Netflix on Monday, June 8, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

The series is based on Lindy West’s 2016 non-fiction book, Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman. It is a collection of stories that explores a wide range of topics, such as feminism and body image. West also developed the show for Hulu alongside Aidy Bryant (Saturday Night Live) and Alexandra Rushfield (Parks and Recreation). Meanwhile, actress Elizabeth Banks served as a co-producer.

Shrill follows Annie Easton, an overweight young journalist, who decides to take control of her life without trying to change her body. While struggling with bad relationships, family issues, and a demanding workplace, Annie slowly becomes confident and begins challenging the norms surrounding overweight women.

Bryant headlines the show as Annie. She is joined by Lolly Adefope as Fran, Luka Jones as Ryan, John Cameron Mitchell as Gabe, Ian Owens as Amadi, and Patti Harrison as Ruthie, among others.

Shrill premiered at the 2019 South by Southwest as part of the festival’s episodic program. Later, it arrived on Hulu on March 15, 2019, with all six episodes of the season becoming available on the same day. Subsequently, Seasons 2 and 3, each comprising eight episodes, aired in January 2020 and May 2021, respectively.

The show generally received favorable reviews from both critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a critics’ approval rating of 88%, while the audience score sits at 65%. On Metacritic, it has a weighted average critics’ score of 74 and an average user rating of 5.5. The series also earned Bryant a Primetime Emmy nomination.
