Pierre Deny, who played Louis de Léon on Emily in Paris, died at the age of 69 following a battle with ALS, his family revealed. Learn about his career and read a tribute from his costar Paul Forman.

Emily in Paris' Pierre Deny Dead at 69 After ALS Battle

Emily in Paris’ Pierre Deny has taken his final bow.

The actor, who appeared on season three and four of the comedy, died May 25 at age 69 following a battle with ALS, his daughters confirmed to French outlet TFI Info.

The news comes days after Netflix revealed Emily in Paris—starring Lily Collins and Ashley Park—would end after its upcoming sixth season.

"From bonjour to au revoir," the streaming service stated on Instagram May 21. "After six years, multiple cities, and countless memories, the final season has arrived—and it promises to be a farewell to remember."

As the Emily in Paris family bids adieu to both the show and one of their own, read on to learn more about Deny.

Who did Pierre Deny play on Emily in Paris?

Deny portrayed Louis de Léon, the head of the luxury behemoth JVMA and the father of Paul Forman’s character Nicolas (who is the on-again, off-again boyfriend of Park's character Mindy).

When did Pierre Deny last appear on Emily in Paris?

Deny last appeared on season four of Emily in Paris, which aired in 2024.

During that season, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu's character Sylvie Grateau—who used to work with Louis before starting her own luxury marketing agency—is contacted by a reporter for a story about his behavior towards female employees and believes Louis is trying to buy her silence by offering to invest in her husband’s club. Sylvie agrees to come forward with her experience and tells the reporter how Louis had a "long history of promising promotions in exchange for sexual favors."

As Sylvie noted in the episode, "Men like Louis de Léon need to be held accountable for their actions."

What Else Did Pierre Deny Appear in Besides Emily in Paris?

Over the years, Deny acted in many French TV series, including Une Femme D’HonneurSous Le Soleil, Plus Belle la Vie and Cinq Soeurs. He also famously played Dr. Renaud Dumaze in Demain Nous Appartient. In addition, Deny appeared in movies, including 2012's La Vie d'une Autre and 2023's Meurtres dans le Cantal. His final credit, according to his IMDb, was for a 2025 episode of the show Camping Paradis.

When Was Pierre Deny Diagnosed With ALS?

While Deny’s daughters did not say when their father was diagnosed, they noted in their statement to TFI Info that it was a “sudden and severe case of ALS.” Otherwise, it appears Deny kept details of his health private.

What Have Pierre Deny’s Emily in Paris Costars Said About His Death?

After learning of his TV father’s death, Forman detailed their time on set together.

"Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Pierre Deny," the actor wrote on his Instagram Stories May 27. "It was a privilege to work alongside him and to witness his warmth and talent up close. Thinking of his family and loved ones. Rest in peace."
