A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is premiering tonight (Sunday, January 18)!

The latest spinoff of Game of Thrones airs at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.

Here’s the synopsis: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

But what are the critics saying?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms currently has an 87% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Slate calls it: “A Game of Thrones show that everyone can enjoy, even those who flinched from its predecessors.”

Vulture says: “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is still set in Westeros, which means its world is horrible and filled with terror, but much like our own, there are pockets of it that can make you smile with wonder.”

TIME writes: “Seven Kingdoms may be too benign to hate, but in its debut season, it is also too meager to love.”

IndieWire gave it a B+, writing: ‘It’s the little things, and in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the little things add up nicely.”

The Independent gives it 2 out of 5, and says: “It’s only in this final spell that A Knight starts to feel more like Game of Thrones; up to then, it feels utterly separate, operating in some sort of bizarre tonal otherworld.”

The New York Post says: “It walks a fine line and deftly balances several different tones. Aside from some juvenile humor, it all comes together well, into an interesting stew with unlikely ingredients blending together.”

USA Today gave it 1.5 out of 4, saying: “Knight might have been airy and fun but is instead torturous and drab, a pointless exercise in franchise-extension that scratches none of the original itches nor creates anything particularly exciting and new.”

Variety says: “From a 10,000 foot view, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is savvy IP management, acquainting fans with lesser-known corners of Martin’s intricately constructed lore while providing a more regular fix than the flagship show.”

BBC gave it 5 out of 5, writing: “Most who watch will have some knowledge of Westeros, but one could fall in love with this show without knowing a single thing about the Game of Thrones universe.”

There’s huge news about another GoT spinoff as well, including a beloved star!
