Olay is a classic—understandably. Oil of Olay is so iconic that it’s cataloged in the Smithsonian. Then, in the ’90s, Olay entered the body-care chat with an iconic bar of soap. And now, more than 30 years after that, the best Olay body-care products have moved beyond the basics, turning the everyday shower into another opportunity to sneak a little skin care into your routine. Along the way came creamier body washes, more nourishing lotions, and silky body oils that are anything but greasy.

These days, Olay’s body-care ingredient lists read a lot like those on your favorite face serums. Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides, vitamin C, and bakuchiol have all made their way below the neck, showing up in everything from moisture-packed body washes to formulas that exfoliate rough, bumpy skin and lotions that target dark spots. Ahead, the Olay body products that bring skin-care benefits to every inch, at prices that make stocking up refreshingly doable.

Super Serum Body Wash for Normal Skin

Why it's worth it: What’s the point of packing a body wash with fancy skin-care ingredients if they’re just going to rinse straight down the drain? Olay had the same question when developing its Super Serum Body Wash for Normal Skin, inspired by the brand’s facial Super Serum. To translate those serum-like benefits into a rinse-off formula, the brand created a special delivery system that separates the cleansing and serum portions of the formula. Add water, and the cleanser lathers away grime while the serum ingredients cling to the skin instead of washing away immediately.

Salicylic acid whisks away dead surface cells for smoother-feeling skin, while niacinamide reinforces the skin barrier and improves the look of uneven tone. A signaling peptide (palmitoyl pentapeptide-4) is commonly used in firming formulas for its collagen-supporting benefits, while vitamins C and E bring antioxidant protection to the mix. And there’s plenty of moisture to balance it all out: Glycerin draws in water, while petrolatum, shea butter, and mineral oil seal it in, “making dry skin vanish after just a few uses,” says Debra Jaliman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City.

Tester feedback from contributing commerce editor Deanna Pai

“This might be formulated with ‘normal’ skin in mind, but my very dry, often itchy skin also loved it. You can feel the serum-like texture as soon as you pump it out of the bottle, and while it takes a little longer to lather than your average body wash, that’s because it has a moisturizing feel to it—think more creamy than sudsy. I love that the light floral scent was noticeable in the shower but more subtle on my skin. Even more noteworthy, my skin felt soft and comfortable even before I reached for lotion—which is a big deal coming from a body wash.” —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

Even Better: Olay Dark Spot Correcting Body Lotion

Dark Spot Correcting Body Lotion

Why it's worth it: Dark spots don’t stop at your jawline, whether you’re dealing with lingering marks from body breakouts, bug bites, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from the occasional ingrown hair. Olay’s Dark Spot Correcting Body Lotion turns your everyday moisturizing step into a skin tone-evening treatment, with niacinamide to fade the look of discoloration while strengthening the skin barrier. Lactic acid, a gentle alpha hydroxy acid, exfoliates away dull surface cells to gradually reveal smoother, more even-looking skin, while 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a vitamin C derivative, adds another brightening boost. And because it’s a body lotion, after all, hydration isn’t an afterthought: Glycerin draws water into skin, panthenol hydrates and soothes, and dimethicone and fatty alcohols soften skin and lock in moisture.

“My skin loves to overreact with hyperpigmentation after the most minor things...a bug bite, a scratch, a pimple. It’s lovely. And with age, the spots seem to be multiplying rather than fading! Which is where this lotion comes in; I love that it simply keeps my skin hydrated for hours, but there’s a lot of goodness going on in the formula to help with the dark spots, as the product name suggests. Some of the key ingredients—vitamin C and niacinamide, plus AHAs—gently exfoliate and, over time, help even out discoloration. I haven’t been using it long enough to see a major difference there yet, but I’m hopeful. I don’t like any kind of slip or residue on my body after applying lotion, and this leaves my skin supple and soft without feeling greasy or oily. The only downside for me is that the fragrance is pretty strong, and it competes with whatever perfume I’m wearing that day. Still, it's a small price to pay for soft, supple, and even skin. Truly, this lotion costs less than $15, which is a third of comparable products.” —Shanna Shipin, senior commerce director

Firm Believer: Olay Collagen Repair Firming Serum Body Lotion

Collagen Repair Firming Serum Body Lotion

Why it's worth it: Real talk: Slathering on topical collagen won’t replace the collagen your skin naturally loses over time. Because collagen molecules are too big to travel deep into the skin, they mostly work at the surface, where they hydrate and temporarily plump skin for a smoother, bouncier look. Rather than literally tightening skin, Olay’s Firming Body Lotion gets much of its firming effect from that hydration boost: Plumper, better-moisturized skin naturally looks more supple and less crepey. It also features glycerin that draws water into the skin, while petrolatum and a blend of fatty acids and emollients keep it there. Panthenol adds another dose of soothing hydration, and niacinamide helps strengthen the moisture barrier while improving the look of uneven tone. According to our tester, the lotion is surprisingly lightweight, melting into the skin without the greasy film you might usually expect from a formula containing petrolatum.

“I’m glad Olay’s Collagen Repair Firming Serum Body Lotion comes in a giant pump bottle, because I’m going through it fast. I have dry, sensitive skin with some crepiness from the weight fluctuations that came with having two kids, yet I’m notoriously bad about using body lotion because I cannot stand feeling sticky under my clothes. This one absorbs almost immediately with zero tackiness, but still feels deeply nourishing, with a subtle floral scent. I notice the most difference in the crepiness around my upper arms, too—when my skin is this well moisturized and plumped up, it just looks healthier.” —Christa Joanna Lee, contributing commerce writer

Moisture on Tap: Olay Intensely Hydrating Hyaluronic Serum Complex Body Wash

Olay

Intensely Hydrating Hyaluronic Serum Complex Body Wash

Shipin using the Olay Intensely Hydrating Hyaluronic Serum Complex Body Wash

Shanna Shipin

Why it's worth it: When the goal of your shower is moisture, moisture, and more moisture, Olay’s Intensely Hydrating Body Wash goes all in. Its Hyaluronic Serum Complex pairs two classic humectants—hyaluronic acid and glycerin, which attract and hold onto water in the upper layers of skin—with niacinamide to strengthen the moisture barrier and lipids that slow water loss. Despite the rich, satisfying lather, these ingredients balance cleansing with plenty of hydration, helping skin feel soft and comfortable even after you’ve toweled off.

Tester feedback from Shipin

"Sorry to my former faves, but this body wash has relegated all other body washes to the corner of my shower. Two pumps are all I need to get a super rich, bubbly lather, and it instantly fills my bathroom with a very classic ‘Olay scent’ (I find it a little hard to describe beyond just a clean and comforting floral, but it's lovely as ever). While you can absolutely use it on its own, I pair it with an in-shower washcloth to get a good suds going. The best thing about it is that it leaves my skin so soft and smooth that I almost feel like I’ve already put on lotion when I step out of the shower. I'm perpetually dry, so for me to walk out not feeling tight after a hot shower, is all thanks to this body wash. One thing: The formula isn’t a gel and can be a little slippery when you pump it out, so you do have to start working it into your skin pretty quickly. Otherwise (especially under an overhead shower), some of it can rinse away before you really get going." –Shipin, senior commerce director

Glow Getter: Olay Super Body Oil

Allure commerce editorial assistant Hailey Roy applying the Olay Super Body Oil

Hailey Roy

Why it's worth it: If body lotion alone isn’t quite delivering your glow goals—or you simply love the silky sheen of a body oil—Olay’s Super Body Oil dials up moisture and radiance in one glossy step. The formula starts with safflower, castor, and jojoba oils, plus lightweight squalane, which work together to soften dry skin and seal in moisture. But it’s more than a basic body oil: It also touts bakuchiol, “a gentle, plant-derived alternative to retinol that helps boost cell turnover and support collagen production,” Nazanin Saedi, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in East Norriton, Pennsylvania, previously told Allure. There’s also a duo of peptides to improve the look of firmness over time, while vitamin E adds another dose of antioxidant protection and conditioning. Use it on its own or layer it over body lotion to lock in even more moisture and leave skin looking luminous. And if you like your body care to double as fragrance, notes of pistachio cream, vanilla, and caramel drizzle give it a sweet, warm finish.

Tester feedback from commerce editorial assistant Hailey Roy

“When I go through my post-shower routine, one thing is nonnegotiable—I need to look extremely moisturized. I can’t lie, I love a glow. My skin leans on the drier side, so anything that not only hydrates but also leaves my skin looking radiant is a plus. This oil does both, and then some. It smells great, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave behind pesky oil stains. I’m a little obsessive about any self-care product that could potentially stain my sheets, so that last part is a huge win in my book.” —Hailey Roy, commerce editorial assistant

Fresh Radiance Body Wash in Rosewater + Sweet Nectar

Why it's worth it: If you’re treating yourself to an everything shower, you might as well make the body-wash step feel a little indulgent. Olay’s Fresh Radiance Body Wash in Rosewater + Sweet Nectar brings the spa vibes with a creamy lather and sweet, floral scent inspired by its namesake notes. Meanwhile, the formula gets its skin-care benefits from brightening niacinamide (vitamin B3), plus panthenol that helps hydrate and soften. Gentle sulfates create a lush lather that washes away sweat, oil, and grime while helping skin stay soft and comfortable.

Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han

“There’s something so nostalgic about the scent of this Olay body wash—it transports me right back to my parents' bathroom, where the water pressure blows my NYC apartment's out of the water (literally). I love the pink formula (obviously) and how effortlessly it suds up, and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and refreshed—I can't ask for much more! And the bottle is huge, so it'll easily last me a year (I don't find that I have to use body wash every day!)." —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Smooth Things Over: Olay Super Serum Body Wash for Rough & Bumpy Skin

Olay

Super Serum Body Wash for Rough & Bumpy Skin

Why it's worth it: If smoothing rough patches and stubborn bumps (hello, keratosis pilaris) is high on your body-care agenda, Olay’s Super Serum Body Wash for Rough & Bumpy Skin brings exfoliation straight into the shower. While the Normal Skin version relies on salicylic acid alone, this formula pairs the oil-soluble BHA with glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that works at the skin’s surface to loosen dead cells and address uneven texture. You’ll still find the same serum-inspired ingredients—including niacinamide, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, and antioxidant vitamins C and E—along with glycerin to replenish moisture and keep skin feeling comfortable as you exfoliate.

“I've had KP on my arms for as long as I can remember, so an exfoliating body wash will never leave my shower routine. Olay's Super Serum Body Wash is a fabulous formula without the bells and whistles, but I really love the addition of niacinamide and vitamins C and E for tackling the texture and discoloration I'm so prone to. I do use this in tandem with a body scrub for extra exfoliation, but even using it alone helps me get a head start on smoother skin before I complete my full body-care routine.” —Sarah Hoffmann, commerce market editor

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best Olay body-care products, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
