What new action game is getting stellar reviews?

007 First Light, the highly anticipated first entry in IO Interactive’s James Bond universe, is out on May 27, 2026. Ahead of its release, reviews for the game have begun pouring in and point to an absolutely stellar entry in the world of action games.

On OpenCritic, the game debuted to an average score of 89, with a whopping 97% of critics recommending the game. Reviews for the title come in a range of high scores, making the 007 game a legitimate Game of the Year contender ahead of its official launch.

GameRant’s Dalton Cooper says the game, while not perfect, “is a mostly great start to IO Interactive’s all-new take on the James Bond universe.” VGC’s Jordan Middler has high praise for the title, calling it “the best James Bond game ever. The way IOI has translated the Bond fantasy into a 14-hour globetrotting epic is masterful. It’s a game full of spectacle, humour, action, and romance. Everything James Bond should be. New Bond owners Amazon must ensure this franchise continues.” Screen Rant’s Kyle Gratton notes “007 First Light brings James Bond back to gaming in an innovative story that celebrates the character’s legacy, alongside franchise-best gameplay.”

ComingSoon’s own Tyler Treese also praised the game, saying “007 First Light is a brilliant depiction of Bond. As a flawed agent still coming into his own, yet still having the undeniable charm and swagger, this is the most relatable version of 007 yet. It’s also the legendary spy’s best video game adventure since the Nintendo 64, allowing you to really get the full espionage experience, using gadgets, your own problem-solving abilities, and, of course, your trusty pistol to get through some incredibly tense exchanges.”

007 First Light follows an original story based on the novels and short stories of Ian Fleming, and follows the story of a young James Bond who rises through the ranks of MI6 to become the spy we all know today.
